My old car...trapped in video game land
Originally uploaded by crazypete04.I've now been in New York for one whole year and while I've learned to do without good burritos, Zachery's pizza, clean air, and sunsets, I still miss having my old car.
Fortunately, Gran Turismo 4, which I finally did find a copy of (and not at Circuit City), does a respectable job of helping me to relive some of those old times. Unfortunately, what it doesn't allow me to do is drive to the grocery store, fill up the back with a month's worth of food, and driving it all back home.
On the other hand, a month's worth of groceries wouldn't fit in my closet of a kitchen and it's shoebox sized refrigerator anyway. So while I'll still enjoy driving my virtual car around video game land, and thanks to the nifty new "Photo Traveller" enhancement in the latest release of GT, take pictures of my virtual car in video game land, back in real world land, I'll have to live with my actual old car substitute which alternates between a beat up yellow Crown Vic, a chain of steel boxes on rails, and a trusty pair of sneakers.
World Wide Waste of Brain Space
This past week, I've filled my progressively shrinking brain with two new useless bits of knowledge from random websites. Sadly, the more useful of these is that the word "congee" (as in the the Chinese porridge also called
jook is actually derived from the word roughly translated as the water that you've boiled rice in.
The less useful is the definition of "cupcakin'" which apparently can have multiple meanings all of which are graciously provided by various amateur lexicographers on yet another of the webs time-killing
sites (sorta like this one).
Thanks to my "freakin' undercover cupcakin' baker" friend for initiating the course of events which has introduced me to yet another time and brain wasting site.
New York, New York
Ah, after over a month away from home, I've finally made it back. In my first 24 hours back in town, I've almost stepped in dog poo on the sidewalk, had the cashier at Circuit City rudely...I mean straightforwardly reply "Yeah, can't answer that. NEXT ON LINE!!" when I asked when they'd get more copies of Gran Turismo 4 in, and listened to cabs honk their horns outside my window at 3am. Welcome home.
I hear ya Bobby Brady
F1 is making its stop in Kuala Lumpur this weekend. There's been an influx of people at the hotel this week including the Petronas-Sauber team who are doing publicity events locally before moving to a hotel closer to the track later in the week. I shared the elevator with several of the team members this afternoon and realized why kids grow up saying they want to be race car drivers and not risk management consultants - driving suits look a lot cooler than monkey suits.

I've gotta admit, I'm getting used to hotel life. Someone comes by to clean up twice a day, there's snacks in the lounge, and hotel staff are starting to recognize me here. Not bad.
