Now there's a name!

Came across this in Bellevue, Washington (just east of Seattle) and had to stop to take a picture.

I fell into a torpor at work this week.

In the fine tradition of Tai Fraiser, here's my word of the day:

torpor |tôr' per|
noun
a state of physical or mental inactivity; lethargy : they veered between apathetic torpor and hysterical fanaticism.

In case you haven't seen the furl entry on the right, I'm plugging Terry's new website of photographs from his various treks around the world. Enjoy.

Back in the Driver's Seat

Kayak in Puget Sound

After almost a six month hiatus, I'm back on the road in my rental car. Sure, it's not a great car but it also isn't big, yellow taxi and I actually get to sit behind the steering wheel. And if just being able to drive isn't good enough, Seattle's got some great views along the way.

Fish For Sale

If you notice in this picture, there's a sign that says "We deliver to all Downtown hotels!" I'm wondering, what do you do with a 20-pound salmon in your hotel room?

Ahh...the joy of cool summer weather

I've finally made it to Seattle after yesterday's plane debacle. Being here has made me realize how much I love cool summer days. And actually, Seattle has also reminded me of a few other things that I've forgotten: the smell of clean air, normal driving patterns, cordial people, and what not hearing sirens every two minutes sounds like.

The Stars at Night, Are Big and Bright...

...deep in the heart of Texas.

This is where I've unfortunately ended up. I missed my flight out of New York this morning by 10 minutes (which not so coincidentally is the amount of time my cab sat in traffic trying to get from the freeway to the terminal). So instead of sitting on a direct flight to Seattle right now, I'm sitting at the Dallas-Ft.Worth airport waiting on standby with the hopes that someone doesn't show up for this fully booked flight.

The moral of the story: If you're planning on staying up all night so that you don't miss your early morning flight, don't fool yourself at the last hour that you can take a 30 minute nap without setting some kind of alarm.
